Sydney Bristow, a vivacious, athletic grad student, discovers that her not-so-typical after-school job as an agent for SD-6, a top-secret division of the CIA, holds some deadly secrets that not only put her life in danger but also threaten the security of the free world. Her mission is to complete her cases at SD-6 while reporting her findings back to the CIA. But when Sydney finds out that her father is also affiliated with the CIA, she begins to question where his true allegiances really lie. more info

Ally McBeal

Love her or hate her, welcome to the weird and wonderful world of Ally McBeal, a mini-skirted (in fact micro-skirted), power-dressing neurotic with a law degree and conflicted ambitions. As she says, she wants it all, just the dreams of the everyday lawyer - career, marriage, babies and a place in human history. Clearly another child of the Me Decade, where everything is possible, nothing should be denied, and the Superwoman can have it all. She wants three kids, a devoted husband ("my one fish in the sea"), and a spectacular career. As she tells us, she is a victim of her own choices. more info

The Bauer clan has kept us glued to our seats and cursing the time clock all season. The white knuckle, real-time pace has created a show viewers absolutely refuse to miss weekly. However, with a plotline as twisting and turn-y as this one, it's hard for first time viewers to catch on. With the show up for renewal, producers have decided to go it at a slower pace next year (which takes the pressure off them to come up with another "longest day" of Jack Bauer's life). Instead, the show will resemble more of a traditional drama than an action movie. more info

American Idol
Beginning as the television phenomenon Pop Idol over in the UK, American Idol came to these shores last summer and became an overnight success, much like the eventual winner, Kelly Clarkson. With two shows each week, American Idol's audience grew every time out, culminating when over 30 million viewers tuned in for the finale. The second season of American Idol was even more successful! Now check out the third season. more info

60 Minutes

(CBS) 60 Minutes, the CBS News magazine providing a blend of hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, began its 34th season in September and is the most successful broadcast in television history. The program finished the 2000-01 season as the number-one rated news magazine. No other program has even approached this record. It is among many milestones for 60 Minutes. more info

Fear Factor

NBC’s Fear Factor may be the meanest series ever on a major network. USA Today TV critic Robert Bianco calls the reality game show the "most vile." Its rules are simple: Three women and three men attempt a trio of stunts in each episode, battling for a $50,000 purse. In the first activity, some sort of adrenalized feat warms up the audience. Players get dragged behind a horse or jump from one speeding semi to another. Then viewers gawk at gross-out behavior designed to horrify and repulse (such as submerging contestants in live rats, worms or snakes). The third and final assault is typically a timed, high-intensity test of strength and nerve, often taking place high above ground. more info

Real World

Nothing can sell a show like a hot tub and a lesbian nudist -- it's one great marketing campaign. To even the casual MTV viewer, this year's real world cast has been painted as one of the horniest ever, with a barrage of ads featuring hookups of every sort. Well, we're off -- it has officially begun. A new group of seven has hit the airwaves, this time taking residence in the windy city of Chicago. The irony, of course, is that the cast has become so predictable that MTV's world is anything but real. It more resembles The Truman Show with its cookie-cutter cast than any random group of strangers. Perhaps the least predictable parts of this year's cast are that the black guy's name isn't David and the number of gay people has doubled. more info

The Apprentice

"The Apprentice" is a 15-episode unscripted drama in which 16 candidates from all walks of life, including both Ivy League MBA graduates and street entrepreneurs with no college education, will endure rigorous tasks each week while living together in a hip Manhattan loft apartment. The tasks will test their intelligence, chutzpah and street-smarts. They will face the challenges of living in close quarters and must compete sometimes humorous but always difficult job assignments and will be forced to think outside the box in order to outshine each other to get to the top. Upon their arrival to New York City (some for the very first time), the 16 candidates will be rushed over to Trump Tower to meet with Donald Trump, the centerpiece and driving force of this series. more info
